GROOVE ASSASSIN

Who are you?

I’m Nick Moss aka Groove Assassin dj/producer from Sheffield… I ain’t gona tell you my age.

How would you describe the music you play?

I really don’t like to pidgeon hole musical styles… but really anything with soul be it deep, uplifting, downtempo , uptempo… I like to mix up different flavours.

Best dj experience or musical memory?

Erm hard one… i’ve had so many great experiences possibly the most recent spinning to 4000+ people open air party on a Sunday afternoon in Jakarta with Stephanie Cooke singing live was very special!! or playing at Cielo in New York and rocking away then got a tap on the shoulder turned around and it was Mr Kenny Bobien!! that was a special moment. Kenny has done some of my alltime fav tracks the best and nicest male vocalist on the scene hands down!!

You’re stranded on a desert island with 5 records. What are they?

1. Knee Deep ft Kenny Bobien – If You Love me
2. Alfredo de la fe – Hot to Trot
3. Roy Ayres – Everybody loves the sunshine
4. Kem – Heaven
5.Ronny Dyson – All over my face

Current music.. In a state or great?

Most def great!! There’s so many hot new tracks out at the moment and some great new talent comin through!

How is 2010 shaping up for you?

So far 2010 has been a real busy year for me both on the production side of things and the Dj front. On the Dj front i was in Miami for the WMC so had a couple of gigs there  then flew upto New York to play Cielo and Perle in New Jersey. Im currently writing this whilst on a Australian Tour im in Melbourne. I arrived in Australia on Thursday 14th April, i had my first gig of the Australian Tour last night a party callled Alchemy @ Prince of Wales with the Detroit house legend Derrick May which was incredible! 1000+ people goin crazy till 8am – The Melbourne people certainly know how to throw it down!
Last week I was in Jakarta Indonesia playing for the promoters Adroitz music they put on the biggest and best soulful house parties in Indonesia 4000+ people on Sunday afternoons at various one of venues the parties called Sundaze previous guests have included, Kevin Hedge , Alix Alvarez  and Yass. I played a party for them last October with Stephanie Cooke called Sundaze Super Block party for 4000+ people was simply incredible! They kindly invited me back to play at their 365 venue on the thursday 8th April which was off the hook. An intimate warm up for their big event at the end of May was a super soulful experience was meant to close at 2am but we ended up rocking out tilll 4am!!!  From then i left to Surabaya on the Friday 9th to play a party for Solid House. Another great collective of house heads from Indonesia the club was called Redboxx and was another incredible night the residents Bima & Fangy had the place rocking from the start. From then was onto Singapore on the Saurday 10th to play at the very special Stereolab which has an incredible sound system installed by SBS shorty, possibly the best sound system in Singapore and the gig was simply off the hoook ! No doubt one of the best sound systems ive played on for a while. On Sunday I headed out to Bali after 1 hour sleep… arrived in Bali mid afternoon ready to play a sunset set at the famous and very exclusive Ku De Ta which is an amazing place and a great oppertunity to play a very eclectic set of varied grooves and tempos whilst sippin on the finest cocktails whilst watching the sun go down. Then I had a couple of much needed days of relaxation after 4 days and 4 gigs in different cities was a much needed break. The guys at Ku De Ta asked me to play again on the Tuesday afternoon/ evening before I left on Wednesday morning. It was a very spiritual and uplifting experience and Bali is a very special place!

I’m currenlty in Melbourne hangin with friends for a couple of days then Friday off to Hunter Valley and Saturday playin at a night called Tonic @Port Macquiey then Sunday @ Sauce in Brisbane then the following weekend finishing off in Sydney with a Boat party.

Gigs lined up in comin months for Dubai, Abi Dubai, London, Birmingham, Italy, Spain, Crete… check my site for full listings. So currently not had to much time for studio work although I have a couple of releases out at the moment including a remix for Mn2S of Dj Spen ft Robert Owens – Greater Love which is currently riding high in the traxsource top ten … i also did a special edit of Jon Cutler/ Pete Simpsons- Running track also on Mn2s for the Mn2S 15th Ani comp out now.
I have some remixes and productions comin on King St / Nite Grooves / Solid Ground / Seamless and been working with Kenny Bobien, Stephanie Cooke , Jason Walker , Mina Jackson. Im working on an album best of GA which cant say to much about at the moment but keep your eyes out for that.

Why are you looking forward to the Deep Cover launch party?

I heard so many great reports about the last party simply cant wait to come and spin esp alongside mr Neil Pierce. Neil is definately one of the best djs on the scene and his last solo productions are just SICK!
